Scenes from Roman’s First Month

It’s hard to believe, but the little guy just finished his first month in the world. He started out at 7 pounds, 11 ounces; about a week and a half ago he was at 9 pounds, 4 ounces; so we think he must be around 10 pounds right now. He’s getting so big, so fast. We’re trying to enjoy him as much as we can now, ’cause he’ll never be this small again!

Indra and Jenae are typical BKM clients: young-ish, sweet, good-natured, easy-going. “Pose us however you want us,” they told us. They weren’t very experienced being in front of the camera. Again, that’s typical. I think most people you run into are not used to having a camera in their face for extended periods of time.

However, when Kirin and I started shooting pictures of these two, we were surprised at how well they did in front of our cameras. I think the sound of our shutters going off must have released their inner-Zoolanders, ’cause they sure seemed like they knew what they were doing. They were relaxed, candid, natural, and that usually results in some great photos. See for yourself…

The Newest Members of the Mommy and Daddy Club

Just a week after we had Roman, I got a call from an old high school friend, Noreen. She was 36 weeks with her first child as well, and wanted maternity photos with her hubby Ace. She loved the photos we had shot for Joy and Prince, and wanted similar look. We were happy to oblige. We held the session at our home studio, enjoying the chance to catch up and share our experiences as new parents with them.

This was an unusual wedding in a lot of ways. Florence and Jun, probably two of the sweetest people you could hope to meet, hate the thought of leaving anyone out. Consequently, they had an unusually large wedding party: 2 best men, 2 maids of honor, a dozen groomsmen and a dozen bridesmaids, a lot of flower-girls, and 50 sponsors. It was a sight to see.

It was also unusual in that this wedding was held on the day before my son, Roman, was to be born–I promise, we didn’t plan it this way! Kirin and I usually shoot weddings together, of course. But the plan this time was for me to cover this wedding with my brother Peter, himself an accomplished photographer. To everyone’s surprise, Kirin showed up for the ceremony and shot some as the third camera. Dedication is spelled: BKM!

This wedding and ceremony was a virtual love-fest: there were so many friends and family there to share this day with Flo and Jun. The venues, St. Terese of Carmen church, and Admiral Kidd Club in Point Loma, were beautiful. Congrats, Florence and Jun!

Meet Roman

Roman came to us on August 18, 2008 at 12:35 PM. Even though he was three weeks early, he weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces at birth. He looks like he has Kirin’s face, my eyes, and both of our lips. It seems his favorite hobby is eating, sleeping, and pooping and peeing on dad. He’s so beautiful–Kirin and I can’t stop staring at him. I love this boy.

Marvin and Shea’s Wedding

Shea and Marvin are two of the most down to earth people we have had the joy of meeting. Like so many of our past clients, we look forward to a longtime friendship with them. Their relationship itself is an incredibly sweet story, spanning over 10 years to culminate in a day full of love which touched everyone present. This wedding was marked by non-stop good-feelings from beginning to end. The couple incorporated a great deal of thought and keepsakes from their journey together, wanting to share the beginning of their new life with others. We had a fantastic time documenting and interpreting their wedding for them.

She decided that for her and her fiance Jason, their own wedding would be a simple, intimate affair, surrounded by the people they love the most.
